Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction and Head of UNDRR, stated in her opening remarks during the Eighth Africa Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Seventh High-Level Meeting that distribution of Covid-19 vaccines is still low in Africa, despite the region advocating for health inclusion in the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
She stated that Africa made significant contributions to defining the Sendai Framework, notably on health, by ensuring that epidemic and pandemic preparation were included in the final document.
