Country Kenya.

Mangrove forests are extremely productive ecosystems that provide numerous goods and services to people and the ecosystem.

According to a recent report, an estimated $186 million worth of goods and services are derived from mangroves each year.

For the Islands and coastal communities, mangroves defend against natural hazards like tsunamis, cyclones and rising sea level. Any threat to mangroves is therefore a threat to people, planet and to climate.

In this video, Juma Majanga looks at how high dependency on the peri-urban mangroves of Kenya’s coastal city of Mombasa is threatening the City’s sole forest, and the efforts being made to protect it.
