The Sendai Framework
The Sendai Framework is an essential text of Disaster Risk Reduction.
It is the roadmap agreed to by UN member states in 2015 in Sendai Japan, on the steps that should be taken at all levels, from local authorities to National leadership and international cooperation to ensure resilient communities.
This is the basis to understand DRR and a tool for holding duty bearers to account.
The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, a 15-year international agreement adopted in 2015, has four priorities.
Priority 1. Understanding disaster risk
Priority 2. Strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk
Priority 3. Investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience
Priority 4. Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to ‘Build Back Better’ in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction
