Food security continues to be a challenge in low and middle-income countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation as more than a quarter of a billion people are at risk of suffering acute hunger by the end of the year 2020, according to new figures from the World Food Programme. East Africa and the Horn is among the most affected regions with 43 million people, up from 20 million facing hunger unless swift action. The most vulnerable and at risk are the poor urban communities living hand-to-mouth in informal settlements. In Kenya’s capital Nairobi, a community initiative to teach and promote urban farming is giving hope to residents of informal settlements in the city. Take a look.
